Mummie Plants are spreading! Our indoor trees have now made it as far north as Norway. Flytoget wanted to create a more relaxing environment for passengers awaiting their high-speed airport train from Oslo Central Station. Our solution (engineered and installed by our Dutch partners): a series of futuristic seating pods, each with its own leafy tree shading.
Oslo’s express rail travellers now get to unwind on stylish benches with an integrated planter. Benches are modernist Scandinavian design. An organic ‘split seed’ shape forms the seat bases and is formed from polyester with a lacquered gloss finish. Flat planks of natural larch top the bases and accentuate the natural feel of the piece.
The trees themselves are semi-artificial. Fluctuating temperatures made it impossible to use living trees. Even our preserved trees would not have survived. Ever ready to rise to a challenge, Mummie Plants decided to build trees from scratch starting with 3m high dried natural trunks and adding canopies of artificial Camellia branches and leaves.
Following two weeks preconstruction in the Netherlands the whole ensemble was road-freighted to Oslo and assembled on-site in three days.
