If Mummie Plants had roots we could trace them all the way back to Ancient Egypt. We use mummification processes dating back thousands of years to create our range of super-plants for business. Now the land of the Pharaohs has inspired a new addition to our roster, the preserved Papyrus Plant.
Papyrus, or Cyperus Alternifolius as it is officially known, is a highly regarded ornamental plant that is valued for its aesthetic form. A native of Madagascar, it is grassy in appearance with smooth tapering blades that cluster in umbrella-like spokes. The glossy green leaves add a lustre of vitality to spaces the plant occupies.
Prized by architects for its strong vertical lines, you may recognise Papyrus from its outdoor use. It is very often planted as a feature of ponds and aquatic gardens. This makes perfect sense when you realise the everyday Papyrus is genetically a marsh/bog plant that needs soggy soil, lots of water and direct sunshine.
Ordinarily, Papyrus would be a complicated plant for you to display indoors. Regulating its water and sunlight needs require real care and expertise which would probably involve outsourcing and constant costs. Now though, thanks to our mummification techniques, you can house Papyrus plants indoors and enjoy all the visual benefits without any of the maintenance hassles.
The Mummie Plants Papyrus is adapted for business use by removing its roots and replacing all the water in its capillaries with a natural embalming fluid. This special breed of Papyrus will inspire positive impressions year-round without ever demanding your attention. They need no water, sunlight or expensive expert care to keep looking their vibrant best.
The Papyrus shown in the image has been custom-designed to work its magic from eye-level fixtures like reception counters or boardroom furniture. Stemless preserved leaves have been ‘planted’ directly into a holding base within a boat shaped planter and finished with natural twigs and preserved moss to create a forest-floor effect. Alternatively, you can request tall Papyrus in floor-standing planters. In this instance we keep the long stems with their dramatic umbrella-shaped crowns, grouping them to form dramatic set-pieces.
